How to use

  1. 1

    Pick a shape

Choose the 2D or 3D shape you want to calculate.

  2. 2

    Enter dimensions

Type the sides, radius or height shown for the shape.

  3. 3

    Check the result

The area or volume appears instantly and can be copied.

Features

  • Covers 7 plane shapes and 5 solid shapes
  • Supports mm, cm, m, inches and feet
  • Volume converted to liters automatically
  • Formula shown for easy learning

Use cases

Wallpaper and paint estimates

Calculate wall and floor areas to estimate how much wallpaper or paint you need.

Land and lot area

Compute the area of oddly shaped (triangular, trapezoidal) lots from their dimensions.

Aquarium and container volume

Work out the water needed (in liters) for aquariums and planters from their volume.

Details

Area measures how much space a 2D shape occupies. Each shape - square, rectangle, triangle, circle and more - has its own formula. This tool calculates the area of 7 plane shapes automatically once you pick a unit.

Volume measures how much space a 3D shape occupies. Five shapes are supported (cube, rectangular prism, cylinder, cone and sphere), and all math uses π (3.14159...) entirely in your browser.

Units include millimeters, centimeters, meters, inches and feet. In volume mode, the equivalent in liters is shown too, making it handy for estimating aquarium water or concrete quantities. The numbers you enter are never sent to a server.

FAQ

How many decimal places are shown?

Results are shown with up to 6 decimal places. Extremely small or large values may be rounded.

What unit do dimensions use?

Enter dimensions in the selected unit (mm, cm, m, in, ft). Area is displayed in the unit squared and volume in the unit cubed.

Does it convert volume to liters?

Yes. In volume mode, the equivalent in liters is always shown alongside the result.

Are my numbers saved anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.

All processing happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Verified: Shape selection, dimension input, results, errors and copy are covered by browser tests

Did you know?

Pi (π) - used in the circle area formula radius × radius × π - is an irrational number whose decimals never end.
