Details
Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the energy your body burns at complete rest - keeping your heart beating, lungs breathing and body warm. Your total daily calorie burn is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor.
This tool calculates BMR with the widely used Mifflin-St Jeor equation and multiplies it by an activity level to estimate total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). Choose from five activity levels, from sedentary to very active.
The calorie figures are estimates only. Actual expenditure varies with body composition, muscle mass and health conditions. If you plan to lose or gain weight, proceed at a moderate pace and consult a doctor or specialist when needed.
FAQ
What is basal metabolic rate?
It is the energy your body burns at rest - the minimum needed for your heart, breathing and body temperature. It accounts for most of your daily calorie burn.
Which formula is used?
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the currently recommended standard. It estimates BMR from sex, age, height and weight.
How accurate is the result?
These are estimates. Actual burn varies with muscle mass and individual differences. Adjust based on your weight trend over several weeks.
