Data size conversion is confusing because "how many bytes is 1KB" has two answers. This tool lets you switch between the binary convention (1024) used by operating systems and the decimal (SI) convention used in storage product labeling, so both notations are handled correctly.
In the binary convention, 1GB = 1024MB = about 1.07 billion bytes. In decimal notation, 1GB = 1000MB = exactly 1 billion bytes. An SSD showing "less capacity than advertised" in your OS is usually just this notation difference, not a defect.
